In an ideal world, “caring about what users want” should be true and self-evident for everyone.

Let´s assume that caring about everyone is the right thing to do from an ethical point of view. Isn´t caring about our users at least as imperative?

For me caring about a user means that I use all the tools and methods I have at my disposal to tailor a product to my user´s needs. Apart from being the right thing to do, this makes my product and my company successful and ensures my livelihood.

Unfortunately, it is not enough sit at your desk and have tender feelings about your users. You need to make an effort to get to know your users to be able to empathize with them. Not caring what users want often is an easier path to tread.

So every time your feet start drifting off to the easier path, try putting yourself into the proverbial shoes of your user.

Whenever you require someone´s professional expertise, wouldn´t you expect their full attention and care? Just imagine that your dentist does not care whether your toothache stops or not!
