Excellent places 2018

Design Thinking connects people, and it can help improve lives  — everywhere. Impact Week, a non-profit intercultural Design Thinking program, was recognized as one of 100 “Excellent Places in the Land of Ideas”.

Sponsored by the German initiative “Germany — Land of Ideas”, the prestigious award goes to projects that connect worlds and strengthen solidarity. “Land of Ideas” was founded in 2006 as a joint effort of the German government and the Federation of German Industries (BDI).

Impact Week unites people from around the world to develop sustainable business models using Design Thinking. The program started as a private initiative in 2015 with the mission to foster innovation, entrepreneurship and intercultural exchange at schools and universities in emerging countries. Three years later, it has turned into a comprehensive cross-company Design Thinking training curriculum.

SAP Design experts Jochen Gürtler, Leonie Fremgen, Michael Kögel, Camila Lombana and Lena Vögele volunteered as Design Thinking coaches, contributing their expertise in Kigali, Rwanda and Bogota, Colombia.

“We decided to actively support the Impact Week as part of our SAP work for three reasons. First, the program is a perfect fit for SAP´s overall efforts to support the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Second, we as SAP Design want to create custom, innovative solutions, contributing to society as a whole, and demonstrating thought leadership in the area of Design Thinking. And finally, we saw the entire program as a great opportunity for each of us to learn and grow beyond our daily corporate comfort zones.”

“I am incredibly proud! We’ve done a great job with the
Impact Week in recent years. Without all our volunteers
who support the Impact Week mission, and our partners
and sponsors, these past projects would
not have been possible.”
