SAPPHIRE NOW 2017 introduced the world to Leonardo: SAP’s new digital innovation system designed to intelligently connect people, things, and business. From IoT to machine learning and APIs to mobile, Leonardo is many things—all of which add up to SAP’s vision for the future of work. But at the very heart of this exciting tomorrow lies the timeless: design and design thinking.

It was a point made over and over again throughout the May 16-18 conference: SAP Design will play a highly strategic, foundational role as SAP helps organizations “win” with Leonardo. The innovation-generating design thinking methodology will illuminate the right opportunities; BUILD will be the de-facto prototyping tool for designing Leonardo apps; Fiori design principles will ensure a quality experience; the exciting CoPilot digital assistant is poised to revolutionize how people get things done with machine learning features and natural language processing.

Here are some highlights (at least those deemed “safe for work”):

“We have continued to strengthen the user experience with SAP Fiori across the entire portfolio.”

-Bill McDermott, CEO of SAP SE

“BUILD is “one of my favorite new tools at SAP.”

-Hasso Plattner, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SAP SE

[SAP CoPilot is] “a digital assistant for the enterprise that is fully aware of the user and the business context.”

-Bernd Leukert, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SAP SE

“Enterprise is the new black.”

-Sam Yen, Chief Design Officer SAP SE
