Usability Testing at SAP TechEd 2019 in Barcelona

Date: October 8-10, 2019
Venue: Fira de Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain
Location of Usability Test Center: Hall 8

What happens during a usability test?

Understanding your needs and the way you work, helps ensure that we build software that is right for your business. During these one-on-one 60 or 90 minute sessions you can usability test new and existing software and give your feedback directly to the product teams that build them. It’s a great opportunity to work directly with SAP to help shape the future of SAP products.

Which participant role should I choose?

When you register you will get the option to pick a role as a tester or an observer. A tester actively tests the application while the observer watches the tester navigate through the session. The observer must still be capable of testing the solution as well since roles may be switched onsite. Regardless of the role you choose, feedback from both participants will be collected from the product team. If only one role is available for a given date or time, that means the other role has already been taken.

How many sessions can I sign up for?

We ask that you limit yourself to no more than four sessions to allow other attendees the chance to participate. If product teams need additional information from you in order to qualify your registration for their topic, they will contact you within five business days of your registration.

Why should I sign up now for usability testing instead of waiting until I arrive onsite?

Because choice topics and times fill up quickly. It’s always better to reserve your spot and let us know if you need to change or cancel it. If you wait until you are onsite, you run the risk of the topic being full. Also, if you take too long to register, you might have to wait on-site to see if a spot opens up, so book early. If you do decide to sign up on-site please stop by our Usability Testcenter Registration Desk (Hall 8) and we’ll show you the topics and times that are still available.

If you have any questions about registration or usability testing in general, please send an e-mail to

Topic 3: Custom Code Migration App

The purpose of the custom code migration app is to facilitate the custom code migration process for a system conversion from SAP Business Suite to SAP S/4HANA. It analyzes custom ABAP code that will be migrated to SAP S/4HANA. As a result, it displays all development objects that have to be adapted. Additionally, the app identifies unused custom ABAP code and allows it to be removed during the system conversion to SAP S/4HANA.

Description The custom code migration app analyzes custom ABAP code that will be migrated from SAP Business Suite to SAP S/4HANA (on premise). The app performs the SAP S/4HANA custom code checks to identify the development objects to be adapted. The findings can be displayed in a graphical manner organized by various criteria, such as priority, check title or simplification item category. This helps to estimate the efforts required for custom code migration.

In addition, the app identifies unused custom ABAP code based on usage data that’s collected in the production system. This custom code can be removed during the system conversion to SAP S/4HANA.

Additionally, you will define the custom code that shall be removed during a system conversion to SAP S/4HANA.

Background Information In SAP Business Suite systems, there is typically a large amount of custom ABAP code that also relies on SAP code. Since SAP code has been simplified in SAP S/4HANA (for example, the functionality may no longer be available), the custom code may break after the system conversion. The app helps to identify custom ABAP code that has to be adapted.

Furthermore, there is often a large amount of custom ABAP code which is no longer used in the production system. The app helps to identify these development objects to reduce adaptation efforts. Moreover, it allows removal of these unused development objects during system conversions to SAP S/4HANA.

Topic 16: SAP Leonardo IoT: Rules And Actions – Set Up IoT Rules And Assign IoT Actions In A Live Environment

Set up IoT rules using SAP Fiori apps to create rule contexts, rules, and actions.

Description The goal of IoT rules is to help users to react to the huge amount of sensor data that is sent from IoT devices of any kind. You will create IoT rules end to end, from the definition of the rule properties (sensor values) over the rule condition to the action to be triggered (send e-mail or create an http request) if a condition is evaluated as true.
Role/s Developers, partners, or business users with or without an engineering background who are already building IoT rules or who are interested in doing so
Previous Experience You are a developer, business user, or partner involved or interested in IoT use cases.
Preview As a tester, you will create a rule context that contains the properties (such as temperature, pressure, and so on) to be used in a rule. In addition, the rule condition itself needs to be defined and an action to be triggered (for example, trigger an e-mail) if the rule condition is met.
Background Information The Internet of Things (IoT) is closely related to Big Data in that it is associated with the handling of very large amounts of data generated by devices equipped with all kinds of sensors. However, while the large amounts of data can be used to open new perspectives and gain completely new insights, this much data might also be seen as a problem. This is because the sheer amount of data can make it difficult to “find the needle in the haystack” (for example, the one or two outliers in a huge pile of data indicating that a technical problem has either already occurred or is likely to happen in the near future).

At this point, rules for processing time-series data come in handy. With rules, you can leave it up to the system to permanently keep an eye on each and every sensor data point coming in. You start with a virtual thing that you want to monitor, pick the properties to be observed, and associate both with a rule. In the rule modeler, you define the values for each property and what will happen if that particular value is observed in the stream of incoming data.
