Hi Experts,

i have to find out the following scenario:

we want to create our own custom tile in sap fiori launchpad. The Design of the tile should look similar to the tile in the screenshot marked in red.

Is this possible? In Sap Fiori Launchpad Designer i can only choose “Standard Tile”, “Dynamic Tile” and “News Tile”. How can i create my own tile like in the screenshot? If i have created my own tile how can i get it in the fiori Launchpad?

hope that someone can help me with this problem.

best regards,

Dear Katharina,

thank you for your inquiry and sorry for our delay in answering your question (currently I am traveling…).

I understand that you want to have a Fiori Launchpad tile that contains a visualization of a workflow. I also assume that you want the user to be able to click on a process step to access a specific application or the same application in a certain step? Maybe you could elaborate a bit on these details as they not necessarily become clear by your screen shot?

Also I understand that the screenshot is not really showing a Fiori Launchpad but launchpad-like visualization in a tab in a shell with tabs.

Based on these assumptions you have the following options:

  1. Assuming that the tile only represents different stages and selecting the tile always opens the same app in different stages you should be able to use a standard tiles and display the current status textually or by an icon using a standard tile. The only standard tiles that support images for nor are the news tiles that are used to consume a news feed.
  2. Assuming the user wants to be able to navigate to different apps for the different steps this will be more difficult as a launchpad tile only support one navigation target per tile. This behavior is intentional to avoid complexity and confusion on the home page. In this case we would either recommend using an application type that allows displaying a process flow like the wizard or the icon tab bar or you make use of the new Overview Page floorplan that supports cards with more complex information focused on a specific task or domain.

Why don’t we support launchpad tiles that support multiple actions etc.? We think that it is important to make the experience as simple and clear as possible focussing around dedicated tasks. The purpose of the home page is to show a user’s favorite apps (defined by the user) across different areas and tasks and have easy access to them. Mixing this with more complex widgets my lead to complexity and might make it difficult for the user to find the important apps. To expose more detailed information we have introduced the Overview Page that offers more functionality and different visualizations (charts, lists, etc.) but focusing on a specific domain. If the user has a primary domain he might as well directly start on this page bypassing the home page overall.

I hope this helps.

Best regards
